Rules & Expectations
- ACADEMICS are the first priority! All cheerleaders are required to meet state and school requirements in order to maintain eligibility, which includes grades & attendance.
- CHEER 2 SEASONS: Cheerleading begins with the fall sport season and continues through the winter sport season as defined by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. You will cheer for Football & Basketball.
- SAFETY: is a priority. All safety procedures will be followed explicitly. Failure to follow safety guidelines will cause the entire squad to be unable to stunt during the next game. This includes having the correct practice wear. There will be no exceptions!
- PUNCTUALITY: You must be on time to all sporting events/team commitments that require your participation. This includes practice, pep rallies, games, community service events, etc.
- CONDUCT: Proper conduct is required. Cheerleaders represent the entire school and their behavior is to be beyond reproach.
1st SI Visit: “Benched” for the entire game. Cheerleader will dress out and sit with the Coach for the duration of the game
2nd SI Visit: Cheerleader will be suspended from all practices for 1 (one) week.
3rd SI Visit: Cheerleader will be dismissed from the team
1st OSS: Cheerleader will be dismissed from the team
Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco use and/or possession will result in automatic dismissal from the team.
- SUMMER PRACTICE: Will be required. If for any reason you miss, this must be communicated directly to the coach. Jobs, all-star squads, etc. come after school cheerleading. Any absence due to those listed will be considered unexcused.
- PRACTICES & GAMES are MANDATORY:
- If you are present at school, you are required to be at practice/game.
- If a practice/game is missed, and it is unexcused, you will not be permitted to cheer ALL of the following game.
- You will be required to come to the game in uniform and sit with the coach.
- Excused absences due to sickness or school related functions will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
- Missing two (2) Games (football & basketball seasons combined) due to unexcused absences WILL result in dismissal from the squad. If you are not clear on what is considered unexcused, please see the coach.
- If for any reason you miss a practice/game, this must be communicated directly to the coach. Do not send word by another cheerleader!
- Uniforms, hair, nails, and make- up will be kept neat while in uniform. There will be no jewelry (exposed piercings); gum, cell phones or ipods during practice, games or other team represented events.
- Fundraising: Will be a team effort. This can help to alleviate some of the costs of cheerleading.
- All financial obligations to the squad must be paid in full by Friday, September 1, 2017 or as expenses occur. Failure to do so can affect tryouts for the next year.
- If you quit prior to the last basketball game, then you will not be allowed to try-out for the next season.

Grimsley High School CHEER TRYOUT PERMISSION FORM
Notice: A sports physical MUST be turned in before you will be able to participate in tryouts. If you are unsure as to whether your child has a current physical form on file, please check with your child’s current school’s athletic director. It is your responsibility to be sure we have a copy of the form at GHS BEFORE the first day of tryouts.
PARENT:
I understand my child, ____________________________________________, will be participating in cheerleading tryouts and that final team decisions will be made on Thursday. My child and I have read the information packet and understand the time, rules/expectations and financial obligations in the event he/she is chosen for the squad.
I understand by the very nature of the activity that cheerleading carries a risk of physical injury. Regardless of the safety measures in place, the risk cannot be eliminated.
